MCAC Committees

Arts and Letters

The Arts and Letters Committee preserves, communicates, and projects all art forms that express the Black experience in positive and liberating ways. It functions to implement the Grand Chapter’s goals for Arts and Letters.

Educational Development

The Educational Development Committee conducts programs/projects designed to address the need for excellence in education. The programs offer mentoring, educational activities and service learning opportunities to the participants. This committee includes the following subcommittees: the Dr. Betty Shabazz (Delta Academy I), Delta Academy II/ Delta GEMS and SEE.

AIRMP (African Immigrant Refugee Mentoring Program) -This activity is the AIRMP program our immigrant program. Immigrant and Refugee Foundation (AIRF), the AIRF have been collaborating in an after school program whose goal is to enhance relations through meaningful interactions between Africans and African Americans as the former transits into their new home. Delta Academy – A Grand Chapter program initiative designed to enrich and enhance the education of young females whose families meet the U.S. poverty guidelines at the time of appointment to the Academy. The primary goals are to bring about positive self-images, promote academic excellence, and instill community service obligations.

Delta GEMS - A chapter program designed to foster the success of the Delta Academy by providing those participants with a continuum of educational and enrichment programs throughout high school.

Science and Everyday Experiences (SEE) – Responsible for ensuring the participants gain a better understanding of information science education and science inquiry and how both support in-school science learning. This committee is also responsible for ensuring the participants recognizing how science is connected to everyday experiences.

Finance

It is the duty of the Finance Committee to recommend to the Executive Board the general financial operating procedures of the chapter; consider the financial needs of the chapter and recommend local dues to the Executive Board; and plan, evaluate, and recommend the annual operating budget to the Executive Board. This committee includes the following subcommittee:

Ways and Means - responsible for recommending and coordinating fundraising activities that will provide funds to support the Chapter’s programs.

Heritage and Archives

The Heritage and Archives Committee is responsible for gathering, storing and preserving all historical documents of the chapter. Specific responsibilities include establishing archival guidelines for the preservation of documents (papers, photographs, etc), records management and disposition, creating and maintaining a file system and procedure, establishing records distinctions and procedures for transferring materials to the archives.

Hospitality

The Hospitality Committee is responsible for ensuring that the meeting room is properly set up and for coordinating the provision of refreshments. This includes the following subcommittees:

The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for recommending and ensuring access to facilities for use by the chapter for meetings and other activities.

Information and Communications

This Committee is responsible for publicizing MCAC’s philosophy, programs and projects through various forms of media such as radio, TV, print and the Internet; assuring the inclusion of local chapter news and reports in National’s Delta Journal, the Delta Newsletter and the Eastern Region HERstories. This committee includes the following subcommittee:

Web - shall be chaired by a Webmaster and is responsible for maintaining the Chapter’s website in accordance with Grand Chapter guidelines.

 

Membership Services

The Membership Services Committee’s motto is MEMBER TO MEMBER: THE CHAPTER CONNECTION. Its focus is service to chapter members to enhance bonding; developmental activities for chapter members for soror/chapter enlightenment and member nurturing. The committee will make an intensive effort to reclaim non-financial sorors and to develop plans for giving signal recognition to Deltas and non-Deltas who have made outstanding contributions or achieved distinction. This committee includes the following subcommittees:

Amenities – responsible for acknowledging Sorors on those occasions involving misfortune, sickness, or death, also the recognition and acknowledgment of professional advancement and accomplishments of Sorors. This Committee also recognizes pleasant occasions in the lives of Sorors.

Delta Internal Development (DID) - is responsible for conducting activities in which sorors can continue to develop and understand the programs and traditions of Delta.

Founders Day - Responsible for planning and organizing an annual activity to recognize and observe the founding of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. This Committee will also serve as a liaison for the Chapter to the Metropolitan Area-Wide Founders Day.

Physical and Mental Health

The Physical and Mental Health Committee is responsible for implementing Grand Chapter’s national health initiative.

Program Planning and Development

The Program Planning and Development Committee is tasked to survey needs, evaluate findings and make recommendations to the chapter of projects to be undertaken matching with the aims, purposes and resources of the chapter. This Committee also develops and coordinates projects that are consistent with the long range plan and the priorities approved by the Grand Chapter.

Public Service

The Public Service Committee is responsible for coordinating the outreach activities to the community that include providing food, clothing for the homeless and outreach to the elderly and children. An annual activity is usually planned for the sorority during April – Public Service Month.

Rules of Order and Policies and Procedures

The Rules of Order and Policies and Procedures Committee is chaired by the Parliamentarian and has the responsibility of evaluating and recommending changes to the Grand Chapter Constitution and Bylaws and the chapter Rules of Order and Policies and Procedures, as needed.

Scholarship and Standards

The Scholarship and Standards Committee is chaired by the First Vice President and has the responsibility to develop and administer the scholarship program of the sorority and to make recommendations to the Executive Board.

Social Action

The Social Action Committee is responsible for promoting leadership, advocacy, and empowerment to effect social change and public awareness. This committee includes the following subcommittees:

International Awareness and Involvement – Responsible for developing and implementing programs that increase our awareness of and create opportunities for interacting with people of other nations and cultures.

Economic Development – Records and disseminates information to the chapter in reference to supporting minority owned programs, seminars and workshops on procurement and entrepreneurship. An important component is an emphasis on personal financial planning and management of assets.

Political Awareness and Involvement – Responsible for educating the members on political issues that impact the African American community.
